Our Road Supervisor monitors operations and individual employee performance against defined standards, taking corrective action as needed to maintain scheduled service and safety rules.

Road Supervisor responsibilities:

  • Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of First Transit and RTD, working effectively in a diverse work environment.
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, disputes and disturbances as assigned, in accordance with policy, and in conjunction with involved authorities.
  • Monitors and coaches operator performance and behavior, models passenger interaction skills, coaches operators in use of time, checks and instructs periodically on proper revenue and fare box data collection, and recommends training or retraining, as appropriate to ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Conducts time point and passenger load checks to ensure schedule and route efficiency.
  • Reschedules buses due to disruptions in service, in conjunction with Dispatch.
  • Audits service, routes and road conditions and recommends alternate routes to Dispatch or suggests service improvements to supervisors, as appropriate. Recommend adjustments to running time or additions/deletions to schedules and routes to ensure quality service.
  • Writes reports regarding service disruptions, security incidents and operator performance/behavior in accordance with policies and procedures. May assist operators in filing of reports.
  • Assists in the processing and follow-up of customer service complaints and requests.
  • Assesses ability of operators to continue in service when investigating accidents, incidents and potential substance abuse problems.
  • Coordinates problem resolution among operators, management, passengers and the public.
  • Performs as assigned during special events and weather emergencies to minimize service disruption.
  • Performs physical work as needed, such as sanding, assisting stuck/sidetracked buses, making bus trades and helping wheelchair passengers on or off buses, etc.
  • Inspects buses and employees for general appearance, safety compliance and maintenance condition.

Road Supervisor requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED, College Level education highly desirable.
  • CDL Class B required
  • Some supervisory and transit experience preferred
  • Fare structures, routes and schedules.
  • Ability to pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical examination. Ability to tolerate natural weather elements of heat and cold. Ability to stand, walk, run, stoop, bend, kneel, stretch overhead and sit for prolonged periods of times. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to manage time effectively and work in a diverse environment. Ability to adapt to changing situations and willingness to help out in a variety of situations. Ability to make quick decisions and work under pressure effectively. Prioritizes assignments and organizes time.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete 100 hours of required bus operator training. Ability and skill to safely operate 30 and 40 foot buses. Availability to work flexible hours, split shifts, weekends and holidays. Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).

Benefits
