Job Description:

Microchip Technologies, Inc (NASDAQ: MCHP), Frequency and Timing Systems, is a world leader in precise time solutions and sets the world's standard for time. The company generates, distributes, and applies precise time for the communications, aerospace/defense, IT infrastructure, and metrology industries. Microchip's customers, from communications service providers and network equipment manufacturers to governments and their suppliers worldwide, are able to build more reliable networks and systems by using the company's advanced timing technologies, atomic clocks, services, and solutions. Microchip products support today's precise timing standards, including GPS-based timing, IEEE 1588 (PTP), Network Time Protocol (NTP), and Synchronous Ethernet.

Our Government Systems group in Boulder, CO is seeking a junior engineer to fill a Systems Engineer role. This customer focused position is a fit for someone that enjoys problem solving, design, customer interaction, and a never-ending chance to learn. You will participate in a wide variety of projects and opportunities. This role requires the candidate to be a self-motivated person who is proactive, customer focused, and goal oriented. The job requires the applicant to work closely with Microchip's Government Systems Engineering and Operations teams, the Microchip Business Development team, and our manufacturer representatives around the globe.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers and company representatives to identify issues with existing systems and define requirements for new system designs. Provide solutions using the hardware/resources available in the Business Unit and identify technology gaps that would require modifications/development.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, FPGA, and mechanical engineers to develop solutions that meet customers' requirements.
  • Work with the System Integration Team to help with equipment integration, installation, and support at customer sites worldwide.
  • Significant travel (up to 50%) is expected in this position, including U.S. and international locations

Requirements/Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Visio.
  • Familiarity with digital test equipment (i.e. Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Multi-Meter)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills.
  • US Citizenship Required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with simulation, data processing, and analysis using Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with precise timing applications and components including oscillators, time measurement circuits, and GNSS receivers.
  • Ability to efficiently operate in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Basic knowledge of microprocessors, memory devices, and logic devices.
  • Basic knowledge of radio communications technology.
  • Current TS/SCI and/or DoD Top Secret clearances are strongly preferred.

Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in Colorado, is $$66,560 - $128,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
