The National Estimator is an integral part of the low-voltage, data center and specialty divisions construction process and ensures competitiveness, profitability, and growth. The National Estimator is responsible for cost estimates for various projects. The National Estimator will support sales in developing cost estimates for the installation of structured cabling projects and the construction of mission critical data centers. Estimations will include all the necessary materials, labor, and engineering costs required to deliver a profitable job which meets or exceeds customer requirements. This position also coordinates sales to project management transition activities.
Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete cost estimates for projects.
  • Understand and monitor program of work to ensure estimates are completed prior to deadlines.
  • Perform field take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation.
  • Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency.
  • Participate in estimate review process with internal and external stake holders.
  • Assist construction personnel throughout the project life cycle in tracking and understanding basis of cost estimate.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of change orders.
  • Follow-up at the end of a project to close any loops in the estimating process.
  • Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents and specifications for medium to large hard bid/lump sum projects to determine overall project requirements.
  • Takes ownership of medium to large size estimates or a component of larger estimates and is accountable for that specific work scope.
  • Completes final cost estimate, adding all labor, equipment, material data, pricing documentation, overhead, and profit margins, and produces a final bid submission.
  • Identifies associated risk factors, including monitoring of published addenda that may alter original project scope.
  • Completes full quantity take-off of all labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Captures and understands trade scopes and communicates gaps / missing information.
  • Coordinates and works with sales development and project management team to create site logistics, schedule, and execution plan.
  • Reviews current material and construction equipment pricing and ensures that bid validity and price escalation are addressed and meet project's needs.
  • Assists or leads in preparing final bid documents for submission to client to meet contract deadline requirements.
  • Support estimating efforts of multiple office locations.
  • Maintain data in E2 systems.
  • Reads and understand blueprints.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel: The individual in this role should be able and willing to travel as required by E2.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • RCDD is preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience estimating large scale new commercial construction projects including mission critical data centers and structure cable projects preferred.
  • Structured Cabling/Low Voltage industry experience required.
  • Bluebeam experience REQUIRED.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project).
  • Must have the proven ability to design, engineer, estimate and develop a written and graphic representation of the company's proposed solutions utilizing the software resources provided by the company.
  • Able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.

  • Solid proven estimating skills and understanding of conceptual estimating skillset.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The standard work environment for this position is an indoors business office and construction environment. Ability to use a computer and/or hand tools while sitting or standing for extended periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, use hands, stoop, kneel, bend, rotate, push, pull, reach with hands and arms on intermittent to regular basis daily. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet. The employee may be required to work in tight, confided spaces. The employee must demonstrate regular and on-time attendance. There could be a requirement of occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
