The City of Aspen is hiring for seasonal parks positions in the following areas:
Job Title: Forestry Technician
Department: Parks
Classification: Non- Exempt

Hiring Range (hourly): $22.39/min - $24.63/mid - $26.86/max

Position Summary:
The Forestry Technician position is an opportunity to join a world-class team dedicated to the stewardship of Colorado's premier high-altitude community forest. Forestry Technician is a crucial member of the Forestry team and gains diverse experience in the fields of urban forestry, arboriculture, and natural resource management. While tree care is the primary focus, the forestry team performs a variety of tasks including tree pruning, cutting, chipping, and planting. Additionally, the team also improves health of our open spaces and natural forests through projects and tasks such as felling, thinning, noxious vegetation control, and revegetation. The successful applicant will bring previous experience and skills, but they will have the desire to grow with the Parks and Open Space team!
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the general supervision of The City Forester
Essential Job Functions:
* Prunes, cuts, removes, plants, chipping, grinds, waters, and cares for trees throughout city.
* Operates chainsaws, handsaws, and wood chippers
* Operates mowers, cars/trucks, electric and gas work carts
* Controls noxious weeds utilizing various methods including spraying.
* Frequently interacts with the general public. Must be able to respond politely and professionally if
approached by citizens complex concerns.
* Occasionally works at heights
* Follows proper safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE)

Essential Physical Requirements:
* Visual Acuity: Ability to bring objects into focus.
* Balancing: Maintaining equilibrium.
* Bending: Bending or position oneself to move an object from one level to another.
* Carrying: Occasionally up to 50 lbs. such as open space signs, posts, interpretive displays, bags of native seed and fertilizer, plant materials, etc.
Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
* Climbing: Ascending or descending stationary objects.
* Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Performing work through using two or more body parts or other devices.
* Gripping/Grasping: Ability to apply pressure with fingers and palm.
* Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, through use of hands, fingers, or other means.
* Hearing: Perceiving and comprehending the nature and direction of sounds.
* Kneeling: Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees
* Lifting: Occasionally up to 50 lbs. such as open space signs, posts, interpretive displays, bags of native seed and fertilizer, plant materials, etc.
* Pushing/Pulling: Ability to use upper extremities to exert force in order to press, draw, drag or haul objects in a sustained motion.
* Reaching: Extending the hands and arms or other device in any direction.
* Repetitive motions: Making frequent or continuous movements.
* Sitting: Remaining in a stationary position.
* Standing: Ability to sustain position for a period of time.
* Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
* Talking: Communicating ideas or exchanging information.
* Walking: Ability to move to traverse from one location to another.
