The Jail-Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) program, a California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) satellite program, operates as a 6-bed adult unit at the Mendocino County Jail. Our patients have been found Incompetent to Stand Trial due to ongoing mental illness or disability (e.g., serious mental illness such as a psychotic or major mood disorder, or cognitive disability). Our patients receive psychiatric and mental health services aimed at restoring their competency to stand trial so that they may proceed with pending criminal charges in the court system and move forward in their lives in a healthier place.
