Development Communications and Engagement Lead

The Role

RMI is seeking a self-motivated and eager candidate with exceptional organizational and communication skills to join the Development Communications and Engagement Team. This person will support events, donor-facing communications, and administrative tasks.The ideal candidate can manage competing prioritieswith a can-do attitude and maintain a pleasant and professional demeanor under pressure.

Overview

The Development Communications and Engagement Lead will report to the Manager, Development Events and Engagement, and provide support in the development and execution of donor events, meetings, and communications that drive cultivation and stewardship of donors. They will develop a deep understanding of RMI's strategy and how marketing and communications strategies oriented to our donor base - including our major donor prospects - can successfully support our philanthropic goals and outcomes.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

Donor Engagement and event coordination and support (50%)

  • Plan, organize, and staff donor engagements such as meetings, small in-person events, webinars, and internal Development retreats and meetings.
    • Manage and coordinate engagement logistics and vendors (A/V, catering, webinar technology, and more) with a careful eye for detail
    • Staff virtual and in-person events, including traveling to live events when needed and managing on-site logistics
    • Develop and manage event program flow, including the involvement of leadership, the CEO, the Board of Trustees, and external speakers
  • Support logistics for Development events (including those managed by the Manager, Development Events and Engagement), including setting up registration webpages, taking registrations, making nametags, coordinating table assignments, and shipping supplies
  • Administrative support as needed, such as ordering supplies and researching event venues

Communications support (30%)

  • Manage invitation process for all Development events, including
    • Working with relationship managers and program staff to develop invitation lists
    • Email marketing production, including managing all event-related marketing emails in Account Engagement (formerly known as Pardot) and Salesforce
  • Support other marketing emails as needed and in the execution of year-round donor-focused marketing and communications campaigns.
  • Develop, update, and report on metrics associated with marketing campaigns to track progress, including updating Salesforce with event data and monitoring event success by KPIs
  • Help manage production for print mailings, including impact reports, invitations, and appeals
  • Provide other project-specific communications support upon request, such as editing, proofing, fact-checking, and producing PowerPoint presentations

Conference and donor meeting support (20%)

  • Project management, including development, maintenance, and ongoing use of Monday.com boards to support conferences, donor events, and communications, working collaboratively across programs, the Communications team, and Development verticals
  • Support drafting of conference attendee briefings based on organizational and desktop research with high attention to detail
  • Support development of our 'digital ecosystem,' including enhanced functionality ofAccount Engagement (formerly Pardot)andSalesforceas primary means of digital engagement, andMonday.comfor project management
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3-5 years of experience in events, marketing, and/or communications
  • Strong team and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels, often under pressure, remaining positive, flexible, proactive, resourceful, efficient, and managing multiple demands
  • Able to manage multiple relationships and complex projects
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality at all times
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and exceptional accuracy
  • Proficiency in email marketing platforms, Microsoft Outlook, Calendar functions, Sharepoint, Salesforce, OneDrive, Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Adobe Creative Suite, Zoom, and typical contact database software
  • Ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications best practices
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and skill set
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in fundraising and/or at a non-profit
  • Experience working with, and preparing materials for, high-level and high-profile individuals, including C-suite leaders
  • Executed or performed work in non-US markets
  • Experience juggling conflicting priorities
  • Experienceand/or interestworking on sustainability, climate,or energy issues
  • Ability to communicateand coordinate acrossa diverse policy, industry,and stakeholder audience

Location

We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States.

We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $76,030 to $93,707. This is dependent upon experience that will be discussed and vetted through the interview process.
