Your Impact

RMI is seeking an experienced strategic communications and marketing professional with a demonstrated ability to create and implement long-term marcomms strategies, while managing teams to ensure timely, successful execution of those strategies. This role will be focused on advancing RMI's approach to decarbonizing the world's highest-emitting industrial sectors that account for roughly 30% of global climate pollution. Previous work experience or knowledge about the complexities of scaling green hydrogen production and cutting emissions in complex supply chains for steel, cement, aviation fuel, and petrochemicals is preferred.

RMI's industrial decarbonization technical experts work globally with industry, governments, and civil society across heavy industry, to (1) inspire corporate leadership, (2) advance the most important climate policies, (3) develop and implement state and corporate climate strategies, and (4) stimulate innovation and foster technology break-through.

You will be a strong team player and manager who coordinates and collaborates with multiple RMI programs, our central Influence Team, and external partners. As the Strategic Communications Manager, you will use data-driven insights about our audiences and their motivations to provide communications and marketing guidance to our sectoral experts, develop and execute strategic in-market campaigns, and coordinate communications efforts across channels with other RMI programs to inform and influence key stakeholders and decision makers. This role requires someone with deep experience at the intersection of policy and communications.

This role will report to the Senior Manager of Market Forces Communications.

Major Roles and Responsibilities

Develop and Lead RMI's Industrial Decarbonization Marketing and Communications Strategy

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver audience-centric marketing plans and communications campaigns for RMI's comprehensive approach to industrial decarbonization that leverage diverse channels, including earned, owned, and paid media; events; direct communications; and partnerships.

  • Provide guidance to RMI's technical experts to position, frame and develop narratives from an audience-centric perspective.

  • Seek out, develop, and manage strategic communications partnerships with like-minded NGOs, influencers, and/or advocacy groups in the target market..

  • Proactively leverage news-making moments, milestones, outcomes, and impacts to drive awareness and interest in the program with target audiences, influencers, donors, policymakers, and decision-makers.

Core Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or related field and/or appropriate combination of education and significant experience.

  • 5+ years' experience in marketing and communications disciplines in the political and policy space, with clear experience in developing long-term communications strategies and leading successful global, multi-channel marketing campaigns.

  • Ability to manage multiple relationships and complex projects across a broad portfolio of issues.

  • A strong team player with excellent interpersonal/collaborative skills with staff and counterparts at all organizational levels and with external partners

  • Passion for supporting heavy industry decarbonization as well as RMI's mission and theory of change.

Location

We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States.

We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $92,055 to $109,939. This is dependent upon experience that will be discussed and vetted through the interview process.
