This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers and technicians, you will contribute to the test and operation of various Vehicle and Ground Umbilical systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of mission success of the New Glenn orbital launch vehicle. You will report to the Director of New Glenn Launch Vehicle Operations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Process assigned vehicle systems, Umbilical's, Payload interface, and Ground Electrical Interface systems from stage receipt at the launch site through launch and landing
  • Develop operational requirements and advocate for design-for-operations
  • Author detailed procedures and help develop test equipment to complete integrated flight systems testing
  • Accomplish your assignments by managing your team (including hourly team members) while ensuring the safety of your crew and your hardware
  • Ensure the launch vehicle and associated ground systems are prepared for launch and flight
  • Develop ground software requirements, write sequencer code, and help create controller panels
  • Earn certification as a launch controller, ultimately operating your assigned systems on launch day
  • Determine and correct anomaly causes, often during time-critical operations
  • Perform data reviews and incorporate process improvements

The ideal candidate has an Electrical Engineering background with launch vehicle operations experience, is highly detail-oriented and future thinking, can manage a broad set of diverse data, has programming and analysis experience in QT/Python/LTSpice/PSpice, ship-side support experience, special test equipment setup/configuration e.g. Yokogawa ScopeCorder for root cause electrical analysis, and has a deep passion for Blue Origin's mission. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE)
  • 4+ years industry experience in Ground/Launch Vehicle Avionics Electrical Design, Test, and/or Operations
  • 2+ years of experience creating/reviewing Wire Schematics, Block Interconnect Diagrams and Wire Interconnect Diagrams.
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated field operations, coordinating with hourly and salary hands-on personnel
  • Direct hands-on experience with power systems, batteries and power management systems including analog, digital and mixed-signal circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, debug, signal integrity, power, grounding and general board layout principles.
  • Familiarity with existing applicable harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4 (or similar standards)
  • Experience with data anomaly review, Electrical Power/battery system troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in a lab or test environment
  • Hands-on experience in developing, authoring, and executing integrated tests or operating launch vehicles
  • Strong operations planning and organizational skills
  • Effective technical communications capabilities
  • Ability to support occasional off shift work schedules during launch campaigns
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated control room or operations experience in a real-time, intense, and high consequence environment
  • Extensive experience with Electrical Integration for space launch vehicle systems, ground support equipment operations and maintenance, or manufacturing technologies
  • Extensive experience with HWIL/SWIL/Simulations Test
  • Experience with ordnance safety and working with Range Safety personnel and processes
  • Programming languages or equivalent: Qt, Simulink, MATLAB, WinPlot, Epsilon, Python, LTSpice, PSpice
  • Demonstrated successful experience writing technical procedures, non-conformance documentation, and specifications
  • Successful experience guiding teams who integrate multiple subsystems to meet a top-level system requirement
  • Experience with Ethernet/RS-422/RS-485 based communication protocols
  • Instrumentation knowledge and experience setting up and troubleshooting data acquisition systems and electrical test equipment
  • Strong safety record and mindset, including hands-on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical tests and operations
  • Experience leading test teams as a Test Conductor or Test Engineer
  • Strong personnel mentoring skills
  • Effective project management, budget management, and team leadership skills
  • Experience in sub-contract management of suppliers including requests for proposals, specifications, and statements of work
