What you'll do

Viasat is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to fill the role of Director of Tactical Gateways. The successful candidate will be responsible for heading the Tactical Data Link Gateway business area, leading a team of professionals to drive market expansion, revenue growth, and successful execution of programs within the Department of Defense (DoD) and related sectors. This role requires a visionary leader with a proven track record of achieving revenue targets, identifying, and capturing new market opportunities, and delivering exceptional results in the defense technology sector.


The day-to-day

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Tactical Gateway business area, setting clear objectives and initiatives to drive growth and profitability.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of Product Managers and Lead Engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Market Expansion: Identify and capitalize on new market opportunities to expand the company's footprint, leveraging cutting-edge offerings to meet customer needs and drive revenue growth.
  • Program Execution: Oversee the full lifecycle of programs, from shaping requirements and capture to proposal, negotiation, execution, and contract closeout, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, and performance goals.
  • Customer Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders, ensuring customer satisfaction and driving repeat business.
  • Financial Management: Manage the financial performance of the Tactical Gateway business area, including budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation, to achieve annual revenue growth targets
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, while proactively identifying and mitigating risks to program success.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a leadership role within the defense technology sector, with a track record of driving revenue growth and successfully executing large-scale programs.
  • Working knowledge of the Federal procurement process (including IDIQs, OTAs, BAAs, and other acquisition instruments).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Department of Defense, specifically US Air Force and Special Operations, strategy.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve exceptional results.
  • Proven ability to think strategically, identify market trends, and capitalize on new opportunities to drive business growth.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L responsibility.
  • Former US Military experience preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Active Secret clearance.

Salary range

$200,500.00 - $361,100.00 / annually
