Job Overview

The Radiology Student Technologist working under the supervision of a Radiology Technologist, performs pediatric diagnostic imaging procedures according to defined standards and requirements for high quality imaging. Provides patient care while adhering to all quality and safety standards; and performs administrative duties including but not limited to scheduling appointments, patient instructions, and maintenance of records. This position is responsible for communicating regularly with patients, families, and all hospital and community caregivers while following department expectations for interactions with patients and families. This position is required to be on call depending on the position's location.

Shift: Varies, mostly evenings and weekends. No holidays or call. *Will work around clinical/class hours
Qualifications

EDUCATION - Currently enrolled as a 2nd year student at an accredited radiology program.

CERTIFICATION(S) -

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R) required within 1 year of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

Provides patient care to all of these age groups:

Neonate- < 30 days
Infancy- > 30 days to 1 yr
Toddlers- > 1 yr to 3 yrs
Pre-schoolers- > 3 yrs to 5 yrs
School age-> 5yrs to 13 yrs
Adolescent- >13 yrs to 18 yrs
Adult- >18 yrs to 65 yrs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

* Produces radiographic images, both fixed and portable, according to defined standards and requirements for high quality imaging while accurately demonstrating anatomy and pathology under the supervision of a Radiology Technologist.

* May perform studies with indirect supervision of a Registered Technologist who is on site and readily available once competency is obtained.

* Assists with patient flow on a daily basis.

* Provides age-appropriate care and prepares patients for procedures.

* Provides clear and detailed information regarding the procedure and care to patients, families, coworkers and others.

* Demonstrates the ability to safely operate all Diagnostic Imaging equipment and ancillary equipment under appropriate supervision.

* Demonstrates and utilizes principles of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and ensures proper radiation safety practices. All REPEAT imaging must be directly supervised by a registered technologist.

* Demonstrates the ability to use Radiology Information System (RIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) as it pertains to modality specific functions and use.

* Manages patient priority and act as first responder when needed.

* Follows all department policies, procedures and protocol.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $42,295.74 to $63,443.61
Hourly Salary Range: $20.33 to $30.50
