THE ROLE

We are in search for a versatile team player for our Finance team in the area of Accounting. This position is a champion within the hotel Finance department and responsible for understanding and adhering to GAAP compliance and alignment with the AHLA Uniform System of Accounts. This position ensures the accuracy and timeliness of deadline-oriented tasks within the Finance department. It is crucial this role position themselves as a partner in the hotel for support on company accounting processes, procedures, tasks, and practices. The Staff Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and Assistant Director of Finance, collaborates closely with their peers who are the Aparium Finance with all hotel teams in achieving financially sound business practices.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Model the company's Art+ Science ideologies to ensure the experiences of trans local hospitality, intuitive service, and collaboration are implemented and modeled by yourself and every leader of the hotel.
  • Actively participate in the execution of Finance and Accounting tasks; including invoice processing, journal entries, assisting with placing and receiving office supply orders, reconciling invoices to purchase orders, organizing night audit packets, publishing daily reports, processing credit applications, processing advance deposits, managing event invoices, and responding to vendor inquiries.
  • Uphold the company's values and guidelines for a Respectful Workplace, Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive environment, behaviors outlined within the Work Rules outlined the Associate Handbook
  • Assist with the execution of accounting and finance procedures, practices, and policies for the hotel, ensuring required deadlines are achieved
  • Partner and collaborate with the various hotel departments necessary to promote the efficient, effective, and timely completion of accounting activities
  • Adhere to and promote legal and finance compliance initiatives, policies, and procedures (including SOX, PCI and other legal financial reporting); and ensure adherence to Aquarium policies and procedures and all applicable laws
  • Responsible for the hotel's Accounts Payables; ensure invoices are processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with the hotel standard operating procedures
  • Support the purchasing and monitor receiving function for the hotel by ensuring orders are received and accounted for accurately in the company's designated ordering system
  • Work with all departments on tracking expenses and updating check books by sending out general detail and working on corrections.
  • Communicate timely and effectively with vendors in regards to invoice payments and other inquiries
  • Reviews all statements for missing or inaccurate items
  • Monitors inventory processes and systems
  • Ensure files are maintained in a neat and organized manner
  • Execute general cashier responsibilities while overseeing the hotel cash vault, performing cash audits, and assisting associates with questions or needs related to their house banks while ensuring compliance with Aparium cash handling policies to help mitigate loss risks associated with cash
  • Perform other accounting/finance duties requested by the finance department management
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • A passion for the People, Place and Character of our community, an affinity for accounting, working with numbers, strong attention to detail with problem solving capabilities and working with others in a hotel environment is also important
  • Finance or Accounting degree or pursuing is preferred, but not required; At least two years 'hospitality or accounting/finance experience; or comparable combination of education and experience is required
  • Excellent communication skills both written/verbal
  • Highly organized with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Problem solving capability with attention to detail and possess leadership qualities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; phone skills, customer service oriented, proactive and a team player
  • Knowledge of all hotel departments internally
  • Aptitude for maintaining accurate information related to files, internal hotel needs, as well as required forms
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all required tasks
  • Work with integrity, confidentiality and discretion
  • Work in a safe, prudent and highly organized manor
  • Practice business ethics and good business practice
  • Conduct self in a professional manner at all times to reflect the hotel standards
  • Available to cross train as directed
  • Attend all required meetings
  • Follow proper payroll and uniform procedures
  • Comply with departmental polices/service procedures/standards
  • Assist with responsibilities and duties in other departments and as assigned by management
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel
  • All other responsibilities assigned by management
  • Ability to lift, balance and carry up to 25 lbs. to transport money, dry goods, equipment, etc.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry (with assistance) up to 100 lbs. to transport dry goods inventory, equipment, etc.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time between the office environment and assisting in other areas of the hotel
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule as sometimes "month-end" responsibilities and tasks need extra attention to ensure accuracy
Pay Rate: $23 - $25/hour
