About this role

Udemy is looking to hire an experienced, temporary Senior Manager, SEC Reporting to its Accounting team. Reporting to the Director of Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting, this is a crucial role that will be primarily responsible for SEC and financial reporting for a high-growth public company. This role will work cross-functionally with multiple internal and external stakeholders - accounting, finance, investor relations, tax, legal, external auditors - to deliver timely internal and external reporting in accordance with US GAAP.

** This is a full-time, temporary position (June 24 - November 22, 2024) while the full-time employee is on a leave of absence.

What you'll be doing:
  • Primarily responsible for drafting all SEC filings, including Form 10-Q and 8-K filings, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SEC rules as well as filing deadlines.
  • Compile supporting tie-out binders for financial statements, footnote disclosures, and management discussion and analysis (MD&A), and ensure completeness and accuracy of information provided by other teams.
  • Prepare support for key SEC reporting items, including the statement of cash flows, earnings per share, non-GAAP disclosures, and forecast information.
  • Manage the review and interim audit process with our external auditors, including PBC request management and fluctuation analysis.
  • Routinely and proactively communicate with other stakeholders regarding SEC reporting and audit status, financial statement fluctuation analysis, and
  • Serve as the point of contact for Workiva Wdesk for all internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee external vendor responsible for XBRL tagging process for all SEC filings.
  • Operate recurring internal control activities to ensure compliance with public company requirements under Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
  • Preemptively research accounting and disclosure requirements for new business developments and transactions, and maintain a repository of internal accounting policies and peer company disclosures to support our conclusions.
  • Support investor relations, including review and tie-out of materials included in our earnings release and preparation of the press release document in Wdesk.
  • Assist on special projects as needed, such as research of new accounting standard updates, process transformation, government information surveys, and key accounting estimates.
What you'll have:
  • 6+ years of total experience, with at least 4 years coming from a mix between Big 4 public accounting (preferably at the manager or higher level) and an SEC reporting function for publicly traded SEC filers.
  • Active CPA or equivalent qualification.
  • Expert understanding of US GAAP, SOX 404, and SEC reporting rules, as well as experience researching and memorializing technical accounting issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to interact and build relationships across multiple levels in the organization and with external partners.
  • Strong project management skills; able to use tools such as Floqast to keep track of requests owned by multiple departments.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, balance multiple priorities, and easily adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Strong sense of ownership and independence, able to work with limited hands-on supervision while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience performing and documenting internal controls, and assisting with internal external audit testing.
  • Expertise with Workiva Wdesk, Microsoft Office (including Excel and Word), and Google Workspace products (including Sheets, Docs, and Gmail). Familiar with other tools including Box, AuditBoard, Zoom, and Zip.
